I like Howard Chappelle better, better style and it meshes right in with Boatbuilding. I like it for that reason alone. But then I've never seen any earlier Skene's or Kinney editions and don't know how they may differ in content, much less any plans shown as illustrations. Lewisboater Kinney's version I have both and that one is better. Chapelle's Yacht Designing and Planning is close to 80 years old. Are we practicing some obscure antique craft or what? These books are relics of a far less technical age. Chapelle's section on preliminary design and his discussion of lines fairing are some of the best out out there. But they bear no resemblance to how things are actually accomplished today.

Probably because it makes almost no pretension to technical calculations, which methods are outdated so quickly.
