In , Simon Sinek started a movement to help people become more inspired at work, and in turn inspire their colleagues and customers. Sinek starts with a fundamental question: Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their success over and over? People like Martin Luther King Jr. They realized that people won't truly download into a product, service, movement, or idea until they understand the WHY behind it. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired.

Simon Sinek Says 'Start With Why,' But Sales Experts Disagree

Bill Burnett. It was our fault. We just showed them what to do and how to do it, not why it mattered. We sold software, not change. They didn't embrace Why they should change their culture of low productivity. We soon went back to leadership and shared the best practices and research the Why behind increasing their effort and doing everything faster, and productivity went up dramatically.

Now imagine trying to sell a backhoe to someone with no authority or power to download it. It doesn't matter how compelling the Why if selling to the wrong Who. He shows how great leaders inspire everyone to take action. Most leaders and companies start from the outside in.

They start with What. He says inspired leaders think, act, and communicate from the inside out. They start with Why. He says the Why is not to make a profit. Why does your organization exist? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? Why should anyone care? Want to download one? We believe in thinking differently. The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use, and user friendly.

We just happen to make great computers. They have used the same strategy to sell mp3 players, touchpads, beautiful accessories, and now even a watch; something smart phones had almost made obsolete when all it did was tell time. That's our Why. Because that is our Why, our culture tests everything. We drive our vendors crazy because we test them against each other and the top performer wins.
