He paints vivid pictures with intricate words and explores the compelling themes of love, loss, relationships, and sex..
All beautifully captured in poetry, prose, quotes, and little short stories. Beyond the underwear the constant theme of "ruining" these women or "unraveling" their "decency", made me feel like the author wasn't interested in these women as people, but interested in them as objects, interested in taking something from them to make himself feel more powerful.
And if we're being honest here, "Virgin Snow" had me rolling my eyes so hard, I'm pretty sure they're still stuck that way.
Side note-Why are all these women only ever wearing skirts?! Come on. It feels so cheesy. That being said, Michael Faudet isn't a bad writer. Many of his poems were beautiful and his short stories worked especially well for me.
I even laughed out loud a couple of times. I feel like the writing was good, but the gimmicky nature of a poetry book about sex kind of ruined this whole thing for me.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against writing about sex, but I think that if you're going to do it, there should be a progression in meaning or at the very least a progression in action.
Mostly, I just felt like the same things were written over and over again. I think Michael Faudet has potential, but this book simply let me down.
