The preface states that this latest addition has been updated to incorporate the greater role of molecular diagnostics and the ever evolving tumour classifications and methods of prognostication. I am happy to report that this is exactly what the book achieves. The book is divided into two volumes and each chapter concentrates on a different system. The chapters most relevant to neuropathology tumours of the central nervous system, tumours of the pituitary gland, tumours of the autonomic nervous system and tumours of the eye and ocular adnexa are set within volume 2. The images are plentiful, well selected and well annotated. We all know that there are a huge number of tumours that can metastasize to or involve conventional neuropathology regions, but many of these are not covered in detail in pure neuropathology textbooks. In my opinion, this latest edition is comprehensive, accessible and up to date. It manages to incorporate a huge amount of molecular detail into the two volumes. The book also comes with online access to the complete text and image bank via the expertconsult. Volume 41 , Issue 6.

It is the best reference in the literature for information on normal histology, and, as such, is essential for all clinical pathologists. Written by pathologists for pathologists, the new edition updates the pathologist's understanding of normal histology up to date with the incremental advances made in the last five years. The 3rd edition has become a "classic" downloadd by virtually all residents beginning their pathology training, as well as pathologists in practice.

The 4th edition builds on that substantial foundation. The table of contents remains essentially the same with the exception of some changes in authorship.
